I'm no Martha.... but I try!
I don't know why I do this to myself. The twins' 1st birthday is coming up on Sunday, and I am convinced that I'll be ready for it, but it's going to be a challenge. Mike and I agreed that we would limit the guest list to family and close friends... Well, so far we are expecting 25 - 30 adults and 19 - 24 kids. Hoo-Boy!
I decided to do something a little different for their first birthday. Rather than cutsie princess or Dora themes, I am doing an Autumn Theme... their birthday is on the Autumn Equinox this year, so I think it fits. I bought some leaves from Micheal's that will hang from fishing line from the chandelier over the dining table, some silk flower arrangments for decoration (along with 'twin' scarecrows), some masks, feathers & leaves for a craft project for the older kids, and I'm planning a 'harvest' menu (like apple cider, chicken & harvest veggie kebabs, potato wedges, etc).
Instead of grab-bags, I found some fall themed chinese take-out boxes. I'm having a candy buffet, so the kids can choose their own treats, and they all get a caramel apple too (I might tie a toothbrush to each one!).
I think I'll make carrot cupcakes instead of a traditional cake so that the twins can each have a wee cake with a candle to blow out.
I'll post some pics of the party.... wish me luck!!
